Hand puppets

These hand puppets were made by our partners at Mamas Werkstatt.

Hand puppets are made from socks with wool scraps and cardboard, allowing the mouth to move and make faces. Due to their simple manufacturing process, they can already be crafted by older kindergarten and primary school children.

Outside of artistic use or as children’s toys, they sometimes serve as mascots. They can also provide valuable support in role-playing and therapeutic puppet play, especially in psychotherapy with younger and slightly older individuals. Examples of hand puppets used in primary schools include Fara and Fu or the Quiesel.

Since the Ming Dynasty, hand puppets have also been featured in Chinese puppet theater.
