"I dream of touching people at the core of their being."
MARIA HERA, MfA
Born in 1978, Maria Hera is a German artist with roots in Transylvania, Romania. She studied Fine Arts at the University of Applied Sciences in Hanover under Professors Sigrun Jakubaschke and Bernhard Garbert and became a master student of Professor Bernhard Gabert. Since 2008, she has lived and worked in Vienna, where she is active as an installation and performance artist, experimental filmmaker, and street artist.
Emerging from the DADA movement and its revolutionary ambitions, collage entered the creative repertoire of the broader public in the 1970s. As such, it is one of the most democratic artistic techniques, allowing people to creatively transcend the world around them.
Images influence our subconscious in just fractions of a second, shaping our emotions, thoughts, and ultimately, our reality. I have always used scissors and glue to intellectually explore the messages conveyed by visual media and to create my own vision of reality. I love telling stories—stories worth telling, to spark wonder, provoke thought, and ignite the fire of inspiration.
