“eleven-twenty | Meidling – People & District”
The new book was created by our partners at ARGE elfachtzig, Michael Haitszinger and Klaus Prokop.
Love. Laughter. Passion.
An eventful journey with remarkable people to Meidling’s most beautiful places.
What else could inspire such a title but the famous Meidling “L”?
Perhaps the most iconic accent in our Danube metropolis originates here in the south of Vienna – and is cherished and preserved like a cultural treasure.
After their explorations through Währing and Ottakring,
advertising expert Michael Haitszinger and photographer Klaus Prokop are now drawn to Meidling.
Armed with camera and laptop, they once again capture the beauty and diversity of our city,
which has received multiple awards for its quality of life.
They talk to people who live, work, or have a special connection to the “Twelfth” district.
With trust and sensitivity, the authors share their stories, offering touching glimpses into their lives,
and invite us on a heartfelt tour full of surprises.
From Gaudenzdorf to Hetzendorf, and from the Wiental to the Wienerberg,
readers will encounter an atmospheric mix of urban charm, suburban greenery,
and a wealth of unique personalities.
Characterized by a multicultural, passionate, and dynamic coexistence,
Meidling opens its treasure chest and proudly reveals its colorful richness.
Densely built residential areas on one side, light and airy suburban flair on the green edges on the other.
It’s a district where multiculturalism is long seen as enrichment, not burden.
Where gray areas are brightened with color and given a fresh, modern facelift –
creating exciting new spaces for connection and community.
With diverse imagery and intriguing insights into Meidling’s soul,
“eleven-twenty | Meidling – People & District” reveals the many faces of this charming part
of Vienna’s southwest.
About our partners, the authors:
Michael Haitszinger is far from finished discovering his hometown. After Währing and Ottakring, he turned his attention to the “Twelfth,” delving deeper into the district on his latest urban walk. Once again, it was the wonderful encounters with so many fascinating people from the area that moved him most. These touching stories, packaged into compelling portraits, are what give this book its emotional vitality.
Klaus Prokop once again filled up his memory cards. With his camera always within reach, the professional photographer spent countless hours in Meidling in search of the district’s most captivating moments. Patiently seizing brief opportunities, he captured moods and situations that now live on forever. Masterfully staged, thousands of photographs were created for his third photo book.
