“eleven-sixty | Ottakring – People & District”

A book by our partners ARGE elfachtzig, Michael Haitszinger and Klaus Prokop.

A heartfelt journey of discovery through a vibrant district.

It is their second great declaration of love to our city. After an eventful walk through Währing, which they captured in their 2014 book “elfachtzig”, advertising expert Michael Haitszinger and photographer Klaus Prokop are now drawn to Ottakring. And naturally, their new work — once again inspired by the district’s postal code — is titled “eleven-sixty”.

Beautifully and thoughtfully designed, the new photo book takes a close look at the district’s charming neighborhoods and offers deep insights into the soul of Vienna’s 16th district. Its vibrancy is once again found in the people who are portrayed — sharing their stories, dreams, and hopes. Among them: district mayor Franz Prokop, Vienna’s former mayor Michael Häupl, SOHO in Ottakring founder Ula Schneider, master butchers Herbert and Helmut Klaghofer, physiotherapist Erika Kronbichler, and Vienna’s oldest bicycle repairman Wolfgang Brunner. “Each of our conversations was unique — from cheerful to profound, moving to exciting, meaningful to humorous,” say the authors, who find few other Viennese districts with such a colorful cultural mix.

Join these two urban explorers on their heartfelt journey through Ottakring — a district that reveals its many facets and rolls out a red carpet into the depths of its multicultural soul.

About our partners, the authors:

Michael Haitszinger lives and works in Vienna. He is a marketing consultant, graphic designer, and copywriter. For “eleven-sixty,” he conducted countless interviews with residents and visitors of the district. “Ottakring won us over in no time,” he says. The result of 18 months of collaboration with photographer Klaus Prokop is now available as a 180-page photo book.

Klaus Prokop is a photographer — with every fiber of his being. He envisions the photo long before it’s captured. “We show images with character, style, and soul,” he says. More than 5,000 photos were taken for “eleven-sixty” — some as spontaneous snapshots during his many walks, others carefully planned and executed to perfection.
