The nonprofit organization GIN – Community Integration and Normalization has been supporting people with intellectual or multiple disabilities since 1992. Their mission is to promote autonomy through self-determination, guided by the principle: “As much support as necessary, as little support as possible.”
In the creative workshop on Tokiostraße in Vienna’s 22nd district, individuals with intellectual disabilities who enjoy craftwork produce a wide range of handmade items — from woodwork and textiles to ceramics and visual art. The focus is on developing social, manual, and cognitive skills, encouraging initiative, and fostering self-worth through the creation of functional and sellable products.
